Our Pillar In Service: Above the Fold Team’s Community Service Project to Foster a Culture in Giving Back

Service and community are important to us as individuals and as a business here at Above The Fold. We understand the value of community and what it means to contribute – so we aim to make it a large part of our culture. 

To help accomplish this goal, each quarter we get out into the community and volunteer our time to help others. These quarterly service projects that we take part in range anywhere from making meals for the Ronald McDonald house, to helping out & donating at the local food bank. 

Above the Fold Founder and CEO, Jessica Chase, has committed to having service be a pillar of the company as we grow. She states, “Above The Fold focuses on hiring applicants who have a heart for giving back and helping others. We want those traits to flow through our culture. We aim to do one volunteer project each quarter, not only to get to know each other better as a team, but it’s said that there are many psychological, social, and cognitive benefits to volunteering in the community – we hope our employees will experience those benefits as we volunteer together.”

MTN OPS: Operation Conquer Hunger Initiative

In March 2022, our team volunteered time with our friends at MTN OPS and their Operation Conquer Hunger Initiative. The ultimate goal of MTN OPS is to “spread health as a lifestyle through becoming and staying active”. We love how MTN OPS goes beyond their mission statement to actually use their business to give more.

For this reason MTN OPS created Operation Conquer Hunger, “an initiative that works with charity partners to deliver nutritious meals to children in need around the world. We were able to join volunteers to pack these meals so that they could go to schools with students and need, and go home on weekends with students that may not otherwise have food when they aren’t in school.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE 

In June of 2022, our team volunteered to cook a meal for the Ronald McDonald house at the Primary Children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.  We made chicken noodle soup and cheddar cauliflower soup, they loved how it was home made and a warm meal that helps remind them of better times. 

The Ronald McDonald House provides families with a place to stay while seeking specialized pediatric medical care in the city. This is a cause close to our hearts at Above The Fold, and we wanted to do what we could for these families to make a difference. 

Our team volunteered to make lunch for the Ronald McDonald house workers and families, wanting to brighten their days with a warm, homemade meal. We ended up making a few different kinds of soups with bread bowls – a nice comfort meal for the great families and employees that came through. 

Seeing the smiles and genuine appreciation from everyone made the whole experience more than worth it, and we’re excited to go back one day soon to help out again.

UTAH FOOD BANK

Most recently, in October of 2022, we all headed over to the Utah Food Bank to help out. The Utah Food Bank was founded back in 1904 and has been working to fight hunger statewide ever since – we wanted to be a part of what they stood for and contribute to the hard work that goes on there every day. 

Our team worked on helping the food bank re-organize and re-wrap large food donations, as well as separate dry pinto beans into portions to be donated and distributed to those in need. 

We even brought in many canned and non-perishable goods to donate to the cause, which we were more than happy to do. 

After this volunteer experience, our team felt amazing knowing that we were able to help out on even the smallest of scales. Being able to contribute to an organization that helps so many people in our community was rewarding and helped us to reflect on the culture of our own business.
